Modern technology continues its generational and cultural influence, as we are all drawn into increasingly sophisticated and immediately accessible online content and interconnectivity. While many aspects of this evolutionary process are both useful and even essential for successful business and social interaction, increasing numbers of clients are also seeking treatment for addictive and problematic patterns of Internet sexual and romantic behavior that simply did not exist a mere three or four years ago. Today there is little question that problem addictive online sexual activity is costing some their jobs, families, spouses, while also contributing to drug and alcohol relapse. This keynote will offer clinical insight and workable solutions for men and women struggling with Internet- sex and pornography addictions, review the current status of a proposed Hypersexual Disorder diagnosis for the DSM 5, while providing an specific overview of these new technologies that are evoking age old problems.

Workshop Description

The talk provides an overview into the history and current issues surrounding the treatment and etiology of compulsive sexuality, The effect of digital and Interne technology and the related challenges faced by spouses and couples who present with these concerns will be reviewed. The training will provide a thorough introduction to assessment, treatment and referral of this and related behavioral disorders, a discussion of co-occurring addictions, diagnostic tools and an understanding of differential diagnosis. The training will make available further treatment and training resources for those clients and clinicians motivated to gain knowledge, help and experience with these concerns.

Workshop Objectives

-Attendees will learn three specific symptoms of sexual addiction.
-Attendees will be able to name three potential origins of sexual addiction.
-Attendees will learn at least three resources toward further client and professional sexual addiction treatment information.
