Traveling for Treatment
Leaving your hometown for your extended stay at Pride Institute may feel overwhelming, but for many of our long-distance alumni, temporarily moving from their home city was exactly what they needed. It’s no secret that people in the throes of addiction struggle to maintain healthy friendships and participate in activities where sobriety is encouraged, making it very difficult to stay motivated in a local treatment program.
Our alumni members have shared that leaving their homes allowed them time to focus on themselves and their unique path of recovery. Some were happy when their loved ones visited for the family program, while others were encouraged by being far enough away for family members not to drop in.
Whatever your situation, Pride Institute offers a safe place to gain the tools you’ll need to be successful in recovery wherever you chose to live. We do have alumni who end up moving to Minnesota permanently because of our strong LGBTQ+ recovery community, while others venture back home equipped with strong continuing-care plans that help them succeed in recovery. Both options are valuable but depend on what works best for you.
