Admissions Criteria

Start Your Recovery Journey

The decision to seek treatment is a big step,
but you don’t have to do it alone.

We know that checking in for treatment can be a sensitive and emotional time. The staff at Pride Institute is here to help you understand the process and learn what to expect at every step. The most important thing and the very first step is to decide to get help. You may receive a referral from a therapist or suggestions from loved ones. Our clients seek treatment as individuals, each in their own way.

Learning more about the admissions criteria for addiction treatment can reassure you as you begin this new phase of your recovery journey. Contact us at 888.408.1625 for information about the Pride Institute admissions process.

Pride Institute Admissions Criteria: the Intake Assessment Call

Many clients receive guidance from a therapist or loved ones, but in order to determine what kind of help is needed, we need to speak to our clients personally. Assessment calls normally take about 20 minutes, depending on the client’s funding source and treatment needs, and are the first part of the formal admissions process. Everything that you or your loved one talks about in that call is entirely confidential, even if you decide to choose a different treatment facility.

Clients complete an over the phone assessment with an Admissions Coordinator to gather information about their substance use and medical and mental health history, as well as determine what the patients needs are or if there are any barriers to treatment.

We will need to request certain information, such as:

  • Records of recent hospital stays
  • Records from current or previous treatment programs (for coordinating services)
  • Legal records if the client has been referred to treatment due to legal involvement or under a commitment status

Your information will remain confidential.

Verifying Insurance Coverage

After your assessment is complete, we will contact your insurance company to verify your benefits. Sometimes the insurance company will require a face-to-face assessment with a member of Pride Institute staff. If that is the case, we will make arrangements to facilitate that meeting. If you have questions about insurance coverage or payment, please contact us.

  • Private/commercial policies — We will verify benefits and provide an estimate of out-of-pocket costs.
  • Minnesota Medicaid/Minnesota Medical Assistance — We will verify if your policy is active.
  • No insurance — If patient meets income guidelines for Direct Access and can confirm income and proof of Minnesota residency, treatment services may be covered by patients county of residence via a process called “Direct Access.” This only covers treatment services and room and board, and would not cover medications/UA’s. To offset additional costs, clients would apply for Medical Assistance.

Once funding is verified and patient has completed their pre-intake assessment and appears appropriate for our program, we will schedule their admission.

Arriving at Pride Institute

Once the initial admissions process has been completed, the next step is to set up a time to arrive at the treatment facility. If you choose to arrive by plane, the nearest airport is Minneapolis Airport (MSP) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

What to Bring With You to Treatment

We advise our clients to bring casual, comfortable clothing. There is limited storage space, so please be mindful of the amount of clothing you bring. Some types of clothing to bring are:

  • Everyday wear
  • Workout/exercise outfits
  • Nightwear
  • Comfortable athletic shoes

Some necessities can be provided, such as hygiene items, but you are welcome to bring your own if you like. Please bear in mind that we cannot allow any items containing alcohol, such as mouthwash or hand sanitizer. Other items that are strongly discouraged are:

  • iPads or tablets
  • Any device that can record, such as a camera
  • Pornographic or violent media of any kind

A full list of prohibited items will be made available to you prior to your arrival.

What Happens After Arrival at Pride Institute?

When you first arrive, there will be some initial admissions paperwork. Next, you will be checked into your room, where you will meet your roommates, and staff will conduct a routine search of your belongings. A nurse will then conduct a health assessment. Sometime within the first 72 hours, you will meet with a member of the mental health counseling staff. You will begin attending groups and other activities immediately unless staff recommends otherwise.
